"Sacred Covenant"

Very early in our marriage, we noticed the extreme imbalance between our spiritual wealth and our financial poverty and said, “We want and need to be an expression of Divine Largesse.” And so we wrote what we then called our Contract with God. It was a few lines that said basically, “We will love whoever or whatever Divinity places on our path, and we expect that all of our needs will be met abundantly as we learn to get our assumptions out of the way.”

We signed the paper, put it up on the wall above our meditation candle, bundled up the children and went to town.

At the post office, we found two pieces of mail. The first was a letter from my Grandmother with $100 included. This was totally unexpected but not out of our realm of possibility. Then we opened a letter from an old housemate who had included a check for over $500. Her letter explained that she had received notice from the bank that a house account that we had shared three years before had never been closed and that, over the years, it had grown to a sizable amount. She sent us our half. At that moment, we were too surprised to argue rationally that there had never been anywhere close to that amount in the account. But who were we to complain?

Still not thinking about the Contract, we finished our shopping (abundantly) and returned home to find that the front door would not open. Something was blocking it. When we finally shoved our way in, we found at least twenty boxes of food, tools, children’s clothing and toys dropped off by the local Quakers, We had just adopted four little ones in less than three years… a total act of faith… and so you can imagine our gratitude as well as our relief.

That evening, after the children had been read endless stories and kissed goodnight and tucked into their beds at least three times each, we took time to hold one another and process the day. It dawned on us that this sudden prosperity was a direct result of the Contract that we had written that morning. We were stunned beyond words. The next day, one of the toddlers climbed up on a chair and “innocently” ripped the Contract off the wall. The strange thing is that we did not replace it. In retrospect, I now understand that reaping such a harvest had taught us that not only could we allow our own wealth but that the opposite was also true… we allowed our own poverty. That was more information than we knew how to process at the time. Eventually, over the years, we wrote more and more letters to Source which we began to call Sacred Covenants. It took us awhile as our comprehension of Divinity expanded to realize that we were writing to our Divine Selves.

Here is a Covenant that we wrote five years ago which is a profoundly accurate description of our lives today.…

“We vow to continually return our consciousness back to the Divine Essence within. We invite inspiration to keep our attention on Unlimited Wholeness which rejoices in flowing through all that is. We commit ourselves to living in the Present (the Gift), allowing ourselves to be an expression of ceaseless love and illogical joy. We willingly accept the pure power, creativity and richness that expresses itself through our lives. We transmute all limitation, feelings of overwhelm, fear, danger, poverty, sickness, traumatic adjustments, shame or guilt, and we remember that Divine Perfection is our only blueprint. We allow our lives to be sacred. We passionately and joyously remember that we are designed to be – and in truth already are – living proof of love incarnated. We consciously welcome perfection to unfold through our lives because anything else would be a limited version of Divinity and therefore only a half-truth that confuses both us and others. We surrender all past beliefs, experiences, and traumas, knowing full well that each moment offers perfect creation.

We now accept…

An expansive environment and community that welcomes and nourishes all forms of Divinity…

Radiantly grounded and vibrantly joyous, sensual, happy, healthy bodies…

Unlimited financial supply for expressing love, beauty and compassion for all of creation including “ourselves”…

And our home which cradles us (and all who visit) by it’s outward expression of the internal love, beauty and profound stillness that flows through us.

Awaken in us a radical awe and amazement and a grateful heart that knows what it knows without apology and without drama. We align ourselves with wisdom to remember how to be Truth, whole and divine, without martyrdom or sacrifice. May we fulfill Thy/Our desires with every breath. Every moment, may we be conscious of this miracle that is our life together. Radiate through us gently and tenderly for we are already listening with every cell of our beings. Provide for us lavishly until we remember that we are the Flow. Dance through our bodies and souls unobstructed and without distortion until we remember that we are the Dance. Laugh and smile and love through us with sweet delight until we remember that it is this Joy that we are made of. Merge with us so that the little “i” becomes the unified I,: as the grand reintegration naturally and automatically announces what has been all along… heaven on earth. .May we be the blessing. May we live in love.”

If you write a Covenant, sign it, put it in a place where you will see it to be reminded to continually change your filters/beliefs so that Love can flow unobstructed. Don’t work at manifesting. As we always say, put it on the altar of your heart, sprinkle it with fairy dust, and GO PLAY.

One word of caution… A sincere statement of intent (prayer) has a tendency to set off a detoxing of old belief systems. So, if after writing your Covenant, you are suddenly poorer, sicker, or lonelier, don’t be surprised. This is simply the old patterns being bulldozed to the surface to be released. You can’t make room for the new without letting go of the old. Emptiness is everything.
