Contrary to what we’ve been taught, life is really very, very simple. You can trust your urges. If the idea of doing something lights you up, then it’s good for you to honor that desire. If the idea dims you down, then it means you are doing something that goes against your nature.
OK, so I can already hear your argument…”Are you saying that just because I am attracted to some gorgeous being at the beach that I should leave my family/responsibility/morality and just enjoy the moment – no matter what the cost?”
No, of course I am not saying that. But I am saying that if you crave something – or someone – it’s because either you aren’t getting nourished in some way. or you don’t know how to recognize and absorb the nourishment. So lets go back to that stunning creature you left at the beach. What is it that you long for? Life force? Kindness? Feeling exquisitely wonderful? Focused attention? Someone to listen to you? Those are all good things? No shame there. Or perhaps that person holds a piece of your puzzle. Maybe that person appears to have the answer to that question that has been screaming repetitively and compulsively since you were an infant. “Am I a blessing? Do I deserve love? Can I trust that my needs will be met?”
My husband refers to obsessions with people who play out our childhood questions as God’s SuperGlue. He says we get superglued to a person – no release in sight – until we realize what it is that we need from them. So stop being guilty for the sexual attraction/superglue and dare to figure out what you really want. With that consciousness, you’ll have a much better chance of saying “Yes” to the underlying authentic need and “No” to the trouble.
It isn’t just people that we get stuck to. It could be the new car, the great job, fame, or it could be spiritual correctness… Enlightenment.. Whatever your current obsession, trust that it is trying to give you a gift. Find out what you long for underneath the symbol and allow yourself that nourishment. We all need someone who cares enough to be witness to our lives; we all need to know that our presence is a blessing; we all need to remember that we are made of Source and, therefore, we are Divine. Dare to listen to your sacred wisdom and your oh-so sacred longings. Does it light you up to go to that party tonight or does it dim you down? Do you feel more alive by spending time with a certain person or does it make you tired? Say “Yes” to being lit up. Say “No” to anything that drains you. Dare to know what you want… the real, core, bottom-line, gut-level thing that you crave… and then, with absolutely no apology, say “Yes.”
