Documentary
Anyone can slay a dragon, he told me., but try waking up every morning and loving the world all over again. That’s what takes a real hero.” |

Dear Ones,
NBC made this documentary about our family. It isn’t a complete history, as it was filmed many years ago before the second wave of amazing children arrived. But still, it will give you a good idea of our family dynamics.
SAFE IN YOUR ARMS won many awards. There are things I would have changed having to do with the emphasis on drama. The producer and photographer came planning to stay for three days of filming, but they ended up being with us over a week because they couldn’t find anything dramatic to film. Life was so full of fun, of laughter, of tears, of hope and despair - everything you would expect from children who had been through such brutality - but nothing intense enough to “anchor the story” as they said. Finally they were able to record a “fight scene” between two of the boys and then they could wrap up the filming.
I wish I could be there with you as you watch this. There are many background stories that would help you understand the behavior of the kids… and I would love to share with you so many tales of success as the courage and determination and love of these children still leaves me in awe.
